As winter quickly approaches, Michiganders collectively board up and hunkered down for a frigid few months. To make the dark, icy months more bearable, we reach for cozy delights – spiced apple candles, fluffy blankets, oversized sweaters that are much more forgiving than swimsuit season, and comfort foods.
The restaurants at The Gilmore Collection have also prepared their menus to give you the dishes you hunger for all winter long. Here’s where you will find your favorite Gilmore Collection comfort foods…
Mac & Cheese at Bobarino’s Pizzeria
The divine combination of pasta and cheese is a classic comfort food suited for all ages. Fortunately, Bobarino’s Pizzeria has expanded its mac and cheese menu to offer you four different variations on the cheesy standard. You could go for a classic mac and cheese with a toasted parmesan breadcrumb topping, but you could also turn up the heat with the buffalo chicken mac, get the spinach and feta mac for health, or indulge in the chili mac if you are a Detroit coney lover.
Crispy Brussels Sprouts at Bostwick Lake Inn
One of many Gilmore Collection staple dishes is the crispy Brussels sprouts at Bostwick Lake Inn, a menu must-have that “can never leave the menu,” says Chef Wes Davis. While “comforting and craveable” are not the words most people would use to describe a plate full of vegetables, the roasted sprouts with its signature blood orange glaze will make you think otherwise. Sweet, tangy, roasted, salty – all the flavor boxes are ticked!
Goat Cheese Fondue and Root Chips at Blue Water and Rose’s
Comfort foods are even better when you can share with friends and family, so order up a goat cheese fondue or two for your next outing at Blue Water or Rose’s. It’s easy to see why this appetizer has been a go-to on many Gilmore Collection restaurant menus. Warm, gooey, rich goat cheese scooped onto a salty root chip is the elevated take on chips and dip that you’ve been dreaming of. And who doesn’t love cheese?
Peach & Date Bread Pudding at Rose’s
While Rose’s menu is full of delicious dishes like pizzas, sandwiches, and entrees, you need to top your meal off with one of its decadent desserts. The dessert menu features rich classics like the chocolate peanut butter pie and the marbled chocolate brownie, but the real menu standout is the peach and date bread pudding. With a Michigan maple glaze and a spiced rum cream sauce, you will want to order two because it is too good to share.
Butternut Squash Bisque at The Gilmore Collection
You can’t talk about classic, comforting Gilmore Collection dishes without mentioning the famous butternut squash bisque! This dish is a must at every Gilmore restaurant since we first started serving it at The Thornapple Village Inn in 1976. Guests await winter just for this soup. You can even buy it by the quart to take home (no judgment). Don’t want to leave the house but still need your bisque fix? Make this at home with our recipe featured on this blog!
