West Michigan loves this sweet treat. It is full of neighborhood classics, locally-sourced delicacies, and even diet-friendly alternatives. Whether you’re loyal to your favorite flavor or open to mixing things up, these West Michigan ice cream stops are worth the trip!

Grand Haven

The Lakeshore’s ultimate summer vacation destination wouldn’t be the same without its ice cream! Stop by Temptations for homemade treats to savor in the shop or to take home in a pint. LA tip from the locals – enjoy your favorite ice cream in a homemade waffle cone. For a non-dairy but equally cool and refreshing option, stop by Halaula Hawaiian Ice Shack in Ferrysburg for a colorful shaved ice.

If you happen to be out and about in the greater Grand Rapids area, keep an eye out for the Furniture City Creamery ice cream truck!

Holland

Remember the classic ice cream “shoppes” of your childhood? Holland has that and more! Stop by the Ottawa Beach General Store, a Holland mainstay since the 1930s that serves all your favorite desserts ranging from hand-dipped cones to classic milkshakes and malts. Hankering for a Tommy Turtle sundae? Captain Sundae is the go-to spot!

Grand Rapids

Before you head into the city, take a stroll along Reeds Lake with a cone from Jersey Junction. The old-fashioned decor brings you back to the retro Ramona Park days of East Grand Rapids. Do you have a furry friend joining you on the ice cream road trip? Stop by Furniture City Creamery in the East Hills neighborhood. They’re serving up homemade ice cream for humans and dogs alike!

Rockford

On your way from Grand Rapids to Rockford, stop by both Frosty Boy locations. After a 10-year hiatus, loyal fans have been lining up for the same frosty treats and atmosphere they’ve grown up loving. If you’re headed along the Rogue River, take a rest at the Rockford staple, Custard by the Dam. This sweets shop specializes in over 30 flavors of ice cream and custard as well as provides plenty of candy, cakes, and pies for later.
